Description of Inpatient Program(s): Weekly, interdisciplinary team rounds weekly on PCICU patients, individualized development plans, bedside parental engagement and education. Quarterly, formal RN education related to developmental care. Prospective research focusing on postoperative neuromonitoring (EEG) and CICU developmental care practice.
Description of Outpatient Program(s): Auto-referral at the time of principal surgical discharge as well as referrals by family, cardiologist or PCP. Bi-monthly clinics with a focus on 3 age groups (18-24mo, 4-6y, 10-12y). Clinical recommendations and referrals provided electronically to family, PCP, and primary cardiologist. Telehealth feedback sessions for more complex issues identified.
Description of research or QI projects in cardiac neurodevelopment – undergoing or accomplished: Our program focuses on neonatal neurobehavioral exams (NNNS) and their association with long term developmental outcomes. We are working on local and national quality improvement projects to improve referrals and evaluations for neurodevelopmental follow-up in high risk CHD patients.
