Description of Inpatient Program(s):
Our inpatient team consists of a multidisciplinary group of providers that work to identify at risk children and ensure follow up in our Infant Development Specialty Program and Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Program as age appropriate. While inpatient, children are seen by a team of providers including physical therapy and occupational therapy. Neurodevelopmental concerns are discussed weekly during multidisciplinary provider rounds that include the CVICU attending. Beginning in 2020, patients specific neurodevelopment rounds will be instituted incorporating neurology, nursing, PT, OT and critical care.
Description of Outpatient Program(s):
Children are seen through our Infant Development Specialty Program at 6 months, 12 months, and 18-24 months for developmental assessments. Beginning in late 2020, our program will additionally include routine follow up from age 3 years through adolescence with physicians and psychologists in the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Follow Up program.
Description of research or QI projects in cardiac neurodevelopment – undergoing or accomplished:
Expansion of the program to children age 3 and beyond will include ample opportunities for QI and research, and specifically many in our group will be collaborating with experts in pediatric neuroimaging.
Unique features and strengths of this program:
Our fledging program now consolidates long standing independent care from a multitude of services (Developmental Behavior Pediatrics, Neuropsychology, Neurology, PT, OT, cardiology as well as DBP NPs/clinical nurse specialists) into a cohesive program focusing on at risk pediatric cardiology patients. Our goal is maximize neurodevelopment outcomes for our cardiac patients through inpatient interventions and a seamless transition to ongoing outpatient multidisciplinary care.
